Class A CDL



What is a class A commercial drivers license good for?



A class A CDL is good for driving any vehicles with a GWR of much higher than 26,001 pounds. Example Class A vehicles include tractors hauling trailers, tanks, containers, lowboys/ heavyhaul, dry bulk, automobiles, refrigerated trailers, flatbed trailers, etc. Certain jobs (such as hauling hazardous material, doubles, or going in and out of ports for containers) may require additional endorsements or documentation (ex. TWIC cards for container transport).



Basic requirements for any CDL Class A License holder includes the following:

  • Must be a minimum 21 years of age.
  • Must be able to pass the eye exam.
  • Must posses a valid state License.
  • A medical examination report may be required, depending on the last time you had one.
  • Drivers who have moving violations are strictly prohibited from applying to this license.
  • Must pass the General Knowledge test, Basic skills test, Air-brakes test, Pre-trip inspection and any other applicable exams.
  • Must carry all the necessary paper work (State issued ID, SSN, proof of lawful presence in US, address, etc) displayed in English.
  • You may have to surrender the out of state license in some states.


Step 1.



Get Learner's Permit



Along with the necessary drug screening and items listed above, you'll need to get your commercial learner's permit from your state DMV.



Step 2.



Go to CDL School



Once you've passed your tests and received your permit, you can sign up for our program online or by calling us at (424) 442-0312. Course takes approximately 7 to 14 weeks depending on time commitment.



Step 3.



Pass the Exam



Upon completion of training, you'll take the formal DMV driver exam for the class with which you are applying.

Course Overview



Students will receive intensive theory and road practice in preparation for their CDL Class A license test. This includes 5 hours of training on our state-of-the-art simulator followed by 15 hours of one-on-one instruction.


Requirements prior to tuition payment include:

1) Class A learner permit with air brake endorsement.

2) DOT Physical

3) Negative drug test results (cost is $80, CASH or CHECK only).


Tuition cost is $2,546.


A 2 hour extra drive time session is available for $350. There will be an additional $350 fee for use of a CDL school vehicle for the completion of the road test.
